Bay City News Foundation is turning three!

In 2018, I started Bay City News Foundation as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to provide free news stories on the issues that matter most to Bay Area readers like you. And our unique model allows us to deliver these public service stories to nearly every broadcast, print and digital outlet in the region so we can reach more than 8 million people. Wow! That’s impact.

During a time when news deserts grew in much of the country and legacy media companies were on the decline, Bay City News Foundation stepped up to fill the gaps and bring vital and trustworthy information to the Bay Area region through our free site, LocalNewsMatters.org. And now, after three years, we have an amazing story to tell. Bay City News is here to stay and we have proven that our hybrid model works: a nonprofit newsroom combined with our affiliated newswire for distribution to other media is a powerful and impactful combination.

Today, on the first day of our anniversary campaign, I’m asking you to celebrate with us and support the journalists doing this work by making a tax-deductible donation of $30, $300, $3,000 or whatever amount feels right for you. Over the next week, we will be highlighting the best of our work from the last three years and looking forward to our plans for the future.

As a nonprofit newsroom, we rely on donations from readers like you to sustain our work and pay for the skilled reporters, experienced editors, creative web producers, talented photographers and designers on our staff. I am so proud of the work they are doing. With your support, we can continue to tell the stories of the people, places and issues that make the Bay Area special for years to come.

With gratitude,

Katherine Ann Rowlands
